At the service of the environment and sustainable development
AEIDL’s skills relate to the field of sustainable development, “a development which meets the needs of the present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." (*)
While the goal of sustainable development and respect for the environment had been a horizontal dimension of the local development projects AEIDL has been engaged in for over ten years, especially through its involvement in the LEADER initiative, it was the coordination of the EU’s LIFE programme, which - from the early 2000s – led to the environmental aspect of sustainable development becoming one of AEIDL’s main fields of activity.
AEIDL's Thematic Unit on Green Growth, Environment and Climate Action connects local stakeholders and citizens with European institutions, by creating and transferring knowledge, analysing and evaluating policies and advocating for environment and climate action. The Unit is a knowledge hub for local and territorial actors and acts as a facilitator between at local, European and global levels to facilitate continuous dialogue and exchange between these actors.
