LIFE Nature & Biodiversity Expert.
As Nature & Biodiversity expert in the LIFE communications team at AEIDL, Simona Bacchereti is responsible for the active dissemination of the results of successful LIFE Nature & Biodiversity projects to relevant stakeholders in order to ensure their wide distribution and uptake. Her tasks include networking with EU or national organisations, making presentations at conferences and seminars and drafting articles for thematic publications. She also has overall responsibility for the production of information relating to NGOs funded by LIFE, aimed at highlighting their working programs and achievements.
Before joining AEIDL in January 2013, Simona was a LIFE Programme Manager in the European Commission’s Directorate General for the Environment (DG ENV). This role included following-up ongoing LIFE Projects, participating in the selection procedure to evaluate new proposals and coordinating various communication activities.
Also within DG ENV, she previously worked in the International Environment Agreements Unit as a Policy Officer (scientific adviser) for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered species (CITES), and in the Biotechnology Unit, contributing to an impact assessment and a stakeholder consultation on genetically modified organisms. At the beginning of her career she was a botanical guide and a teacher of scientific subjects.
Of Italian nationality, Simona holds a Masters degree in Biology, as well as a higher-level postgraduate degree (Master di II livello) in ‘Animal Biodiversity Preservation: Protected Areas and Ecological Networks’. She speaks Italian, English, French and Spanish.
