FARNET Research & Policy Officer.
Serge Gomes da Silva joined the AEIDL team in 2009, at the beginning of the contract for the FARNET (European network of fisheries areas) Support Unit. As research and policy officer, Serge is responsible for monitoring the implementation of Axis 4 of the European Fisheries Fund in several countries, identifying best practices in the sustainable development of fisheries areas and, more generally, participating in the coordination of a European network of partners (managing authorities, fishermen and local stakeholders) in 21 countries.
A passionate and dedicated marine biologist, Serge worked from 2001 to 2009 in the design and management of aquatic environments, including working with several universities, associations and government structures in Belgium and Europe. As permanent Secretary of the GIPPA (Interest Group for Fish, Fisheries and Aquaculture) association from 2007 to 2009, he was responsible for projects such as the provision of scientific support to the development of a management plan for the European eel.
Serge speaks French (mother tongue), English and Portuguese.
