(06 April 2019) - European films still lack visibility, that is why the European Commission together with the European Audiovisual Observatory have launched LUMIERE VOD, the European Film Directory.

The new European Film Directory aims to help professionals, public authorities and citizens to find out information about European films more easily and to know about their availability online.

Today, only 29% of the films offered by VOD services in the EU are European. In addition, there is no European database on films available on VOD, whereas Europe is a major player in the world film industry, with more than 18,000 films produced between 2007 and 2017 and a production volume that increased by 47% worldwide during the same period.

After the presentation of a prototype last October, a beta version is now available. A new improved version of LUMIERE VOD, also taking into account user feedback, will be launched by the end of the year.
