AEIDL, the European Association for Information on Local Development, was founded in 1988 by like-minded individuals who believed that European integration could make a positive contribution to citizenship and to the sustainable development of local communities.
Established in the context of ELISE, the European network for the exchange of information on local employment, AEIDL is regularly involved in programmes, projects or missions involving, either directly or indirectly, employment, social economy, social innovation, start-ups, socio-occupational integration, migration issues, equal opportunities and citizenship.
While the goal of sustainable development and respect for the environment had been a horizontal dimension of the local development projects AEIDL has been engaged in for over ten years, it was the coordination of the EU’s LIFE programme, which - from the early 2000s – led to the environmental aspect of sustainable development becoming one of AEIDL’s main fields of activity.
